Who is Three Sons Signature Cuisine?
So often we are asked “who are the three sons” that we thought it was time to set the record straight in our very first blog post. Family is the most important thing in this world and we value all the wonderful (and not so wonderful) moments they bring to our lives. When Three Sons Signature Cuisine began, we thought about how we could use our love of family in a name.
The owners are Chef Benjamin and Jodee McCallum, married forty-somethings with two beautiful children whose palates are very spoiled having a chef for a dad. (Good luck to their future significant others, by the way…). Ben’s passion for good food came from his parents. Jodee’s came from 20+ years in the service industry and Ben’s cooking.
Abiding Grace Farm
Ben’s parents moved him and his two brothers to an untouched plot of land in Kentucky at very young ages. They lived in a tent while building the farmhouse with their own sweat and hard work. Ben’s Dad was an executive chef in the city while Mom built an organic dairy farm, raising goats, chickens, and rabbits. There were also horses, geese, and stray dogs that made their way to the farm. When his parents split, the boys stayed on the farm with Mom where the chores were endless. They fed, groomed, milked, birthed, and processed the animals for sale to local co-ops. They continued to build fences and clear the fields, taking hay and products into town to sell at the “farmer’s markets.” (There were no formal markets back then – it was primarily the boys setting up a table outside the town’s grocery store.)
Mom was one tough cookie, raising Three Sons, and running a thriving farm in a remote and beautiful part of the country. She passed away in 1988 at the very young age of 32, leaving behind her Three Sons who knew what hard work and passion can create!
Ben’s stepparents still maintain the farm and, after a long hiatus, are bringing more animals into the fold. You can even find some of their delicious pickled goodies from the garden at Abiding Grace Farm Artisan Foods! Sherman’s Spicy Pickles are heavenly!
Ben’s Dad is still an executive chef who taught Ben everything he knows in the kitchen. Dad has travelled the country cooking with some amazing chefs, but has most recently been cooking it up in Denver, Colorado for over a decade now. He was there in the beginning, though, when he and Ben and one of Ben’s brothers started the catering company in 2000. What else would it have been named?
Three Sons Signature Cuisine is homage to family and what hard work and passion can create.
So at some point or another, our entire families — parents, siblings, cousins, and friends — have been a part of Three Sons Signature Cuisine. Whether working in the office, at the events, planting flowers, helping in the kitchen, these wonderful people have continued to inspire and uplift us.
We cannot thank them enough for giving us the passion, courage, and discipline to run this catering company the way we live – with humanity, integrity, and a love for really wonderful food!
